It has been such a challenging and difficult year for millions of people around the world. We all hope 2021 will be a better and brighter year. I am not sure how these challenges will impact our health and wellness choices. Perhaps we will be more inclined to set New Year resolutions, not less.
Anyway, with that in mind, I wanted to let you know how the health coaching process is very similar to setting resolutions, except you will not be alone!
Turning the page on the year is a time when many of us reflect on our lives, and it seems a good time to set goals which we then try and achieve in the following months.
Of course, we would like to stick to changes we make as long as they are positive. That can be the hard part! By talking to you and hearing your ideal vision of health and wellness, a coach can help you achieve your goals, underpinned by your values.
New Year Resolutions
Common goals may be to lose some weight, quit smoking, or eat more healthily. Others may be to increase physical exercise or make that doctor’s appointment to focus on your annual physical exam. The list goes on and on.
It may be daunting, and you may not know which goal you would like to settle on first. This is where a coach can be helpful. They act as your partner in supporting you to achieve your goals. Together you will set small action steps that must be viewed as achievable, not too easy but not too hard! Accountability is key, and by meeting with your coach every 1 – 2 weeks, you report back on your progress. It is not the coach’s role to criticize you if you have not achieved your action steps.
Together with your coach, barriers to progress can be discussed and alterations made so the steps to achieving your goal are made more manageable and realistic. If you’ve managed to reach your goal(s) over the ensuing months, the coaching process can be concluded or continued with a view of setting new wellness goals.
So, if you are struggling with New Year resolutions, think about health coaching to support you!
